Dr. Helfand is a member of the International Steering Group of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), recipient of the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize. The former president of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, he is a leading voice on the humanitarian impact and medical consequences of nuclear weapons. Educated at Harvard College and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, he recently retired from his practice as an internist and urgent care physician in Springfield, MA.
